Who We Are

The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library assumes the role of fulfilling the information needs of the residents of Lowndes County and neighboring counties in Mississippi by advocating efficient, effective services and encouraging cooperation among all libraries. ​ The objectives of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library are to select, organize, preserve, and make available materials within the limitations of space and budget, which will aid the citizens of Lowndes County in their pursuit of education, information, recreation, research and culture.

 

What We Do

The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library is comprised of a headquarters in Columbus with three branches located in Artesia, Caledonia and Crawford. Library services include an automated circulation system; online public access catalog; public internet access; extensive book, audio, video and periodical collections; interlibrary loan; reference department offering ready reference and periodical collections; electronic state-of-the-art archival facility combined with a local history and genealogy department serving genealogical researchers from every state; children's department featuring year-round story times for preschoolers and babies; a summer reading program, and other seasonal programs; handicapped accessibility and materials such as large print and talking books; county-wide extension service; literary programs; meeting and conference room facilities; art and collectible displays, and an active Friends of the Library support group.
