Columbus - Lowndes Habitat for Humanity

Who We Are

Columbus - Lowndes Habitat for Humanity was chartered in 1989 by members of our community who were alarmed at the number of children and adults living in substandard housing. Since then, we have built at least 50 homes for qualified low-income families living in inadequate housing who are able to pay a low mortgage. “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.” Our goal is to put the need for safe, affordable housing on the hearts and minds of people everywhere so that, one day, everyone has a decent place to live.

What We Do

The CLHFH ReStore sells donated new and gently used building materials, furniture, household wares and linen, art, craft supplies, collectibles and other items to raise revenue to help finance our mission of building and repairing homes for local, qualified, low-income people. ReStore volunteers enjoy organizing and preparing items for sale through the week and assisting customers on sales days. Home Construction Volunteers are vital to building decent, affordable homes. Volunteer work offsets hours of otherwise expensive labor, making affordable payments on a new home possible for applicants who meet our requirements. Experience is welcome, but not required. Lunch, Snacks or Beverages for Volunteers. Not all construction or ReStore volunteers use hammers and organize donated merchandise! Snacks and meals are an inexpensive but very helpful way to support our volunteers. You can provide lunch, snacks or beverages on your own, or work with friends, family, church or co-workers to furnish them to a construction site or to the ReStore. Groups of 4 to 5 volunteers are welcome, but we require two weeks advance notice to coordinate purposeful and meaningful projects.
